Unique Senior Care
Resident Care
The Arbor Company takes pride in providing exceptional service and care for our residents. Our goal is to help residents create the lifestyle they want and provide the quality of care they need.
With the implementation of a web-based resident information system, we have developed a comprehensive functional, social and emotional assessment tool for evaluating incoming residents. As a result, Resident Care Directors are able to accurately identify resident abilities and needs, with two important results: resident function, and therefore quality of life, is maintained, and where need exists, residents are charged appropriately. Five distinct levels of care and a menu of ancillary services allow residents to select the care they need and communities to match caregiver staffing to resident acuity.
Providing the highest quality of care is the central operating principle of The Arbor Company. Reviewing clinical outcomes on a monthly basis increases early intervention and follow-up in key clinical risk areas: falls, elopement, skin breakdown and weight loss. Resident Care Directors work closely with outside providers (hospice, home health, rehab and geriatric psychiatrists) to make sure that residents' needs are fully met. Residents and their families are educated about potential risks and formally asked to share in the responsibility of those risks through Shared Risk Agreements.
Resident Life
Recognizing the importance of independence and self-preservation, the Arbor Company provides extended support in the development of vibrant activity programs that serve residents' various care levels, abilities and interests.
We are currently developing a progressive model for activity programming based on a deep understanding of each resident's social, emotional and cognitive level of function. Once implemented, this approach will allow us to provide engaging activity programs for many different types of residents instead of casting a wide net where one size fits all. Currently we are refining the model within one of our communities and expect to have it in place in several more communities by year's end.
The Arbor Company has a long history of incorporating technology into the resident activity program in order to promote cognitive fitness, good communication and fun. The following three programs are some of the most popular:
CyberSeniors-provides dedicated, supported time for residents to send and receive email and video clips with family and friends.
Dakim BrainFitness-is a web-based cognitive fitness program which recognizes individual residents' cognitive level and allows them to challenge themselves through memory development.
Wii-This popular video game has been adapted for use by seniors in many Arbor communities, with competitive and increasingly fit teams participating.
In collaboration with Illustratus, a newsletter publishing company, the Arbor Company has developed an Arbor branded newsletter. Each Arbor community produces a full-color, professionally printed newsletter on a routine basis which is used to enhance communication with residents, families and staff as well as serve as an effective marketing tool.
In conjunction with a food service consultant, the Arbor Company strives to provide a five-star dining experience in a home-like setting.
Memory Care
Supported by a nationally recognized Alzheimer's expert, the Arbor Company's memory care programs provide exceptional care within a structured environment to provide enhanced safety to residents with Alzheimer's disease and other memory disorders.
Unlike many other management companies, The Arbor Company has a dedicated Alzheimer's consultant who works intensively with our memory care programs to help staff deliver care in the most compassionate and clinically advanced manner. With her help we are working aggressively towards creating state of the art dementia care in each of our communities.
Each Arbor community has a full-time staff member dedicated to the oversight of our memory care programs. In some cases, these Directors are licensed nurses; in other cases activity professionals.
Working with Teepa Snow, a nationally recognized expert on Alzheimer's Disease and other forms of dementia, we have created a training program for all staff who work with residents in our Evergreen (memory care) programs. Through this multi-stage process, Resident Assistants gain competency in a host of skills which are essential in providing high quality care to resident with memory-related disorders. This commitment to training and ongoing follow-up in each community sets us apart from many of our competitors and allows us to care for memory-impaired residents with compassion and skill.
