Summer afternoons are prime time for relaxing with a fishing pole, and this week the staff at Arbor Terrace of Athens gave residents a taste of those bygone days.

On Thursday, 14 residents spent a morning baiting hooks and fishing for catfish and bream in tanks decorated with colorful fish cutouts.

They used cheese for bait, thanks to the suggestion of resident Joan Lee, and several folks reeled in at least one fish.

A picnic, which included “dirt cups,” actually pudding cups with gummy worms, a kids’ favorite, also enjoyed by the young at heart, capped off the event.

The fishing poles were donated by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and the fish came from David Garrett of Garrett Pond Resources.
