6 Senior-Friendly Activities to Enjoy at Brookhaven Park

As a city in a forest, Atlanta is beloved for its tree canopy, as well as the many inviting parks these trees inhabit. Owned by the City of Brookhaven, Brookhaven Park is the perfect place to spend Atlanta’s warmer months, whether you’re a hiking novice or a committed outdoorsperson. Here are the best senior-friendly activities to enjoy at Brookhaven Park.

Walk the Dogs — or Make a New Dog Friend

Brookhaven Park boasts one of the city's most beloved dog parks, with plenty of space in which your dog can run and play off-leash. The park is open after dark, too, making it a great place to meet your kids for a quick romp with Fido after work. There are also plenty of excellent trails for walking leashed dogs, so if playful unleashed canines aren’t your thing, you can still make a new four-legged friend or play with your own furry companion while walking around the park.

Head to the Playground

Brookhaven Park boasts one of the city’s best playgrounds. So pack a picnic lunch, then let the grandkids run off their energy. Playgrounds can be fun for grown-up kids, too. After all, when was the last time you sat in a swing and stared at the sky? You deserve to play, too, so declare a game of tag and start chasing the little people you love the most.

Gardening

You don’t have to till the land, improve the soil, and invest in composting to garden. Try becoming a part of Brookhaven Park’s community garden instead. Invest in a plot, then get expert guidance to grow whatever you please. This is an exceptional option for seniors who live in apartments, or whose yards are covered in shade.

Team Sports

Whether you played baseball in your youth and can’t wait to try again now, or you’re just a big fan of our national pastime, Brookhaven Park is a great spot for enjoying a little baseball. If hitting a ball isn't your thing, head down the trail to the basketball court, where a pickup game is pretty much always happening.

Hike the Trails

Brookhaven Park offers the illusion of being in the woods even though you’re in the heart of the city. Get lost on one of its many trails. There are options wherein novice hikers can stop for a picnic while enjoying an easy stroll, as well as more challenging hikes that cross streams and offer stunning scenery.

Honor Someone You Love

As a relatively new city, Brookhaven is still growing. Its 14 parks are among its most popular features. One of the ways it funds these parks is through its memorial program. Allow someone you love to live on in a picturesque natural setting by donating a bench, swing, or tree in their name to Brookhaven Park. Then enjoy thinking about them every time you walk by the item you donated.

Make Your Retirement Uniquely You

Atlanta is the perfect spot for retirement. Buckhead and adjacent Brookhaven lie at the heart of it all, with ready access to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, the High Museum of Art, the Carter Center, and so much more. No matter what you’re into, you’ll find something just outside your door at Renaissance on Peachtree. You don’t even have to leave home if you don't want to. We offer live music, stunning views, special events, classes, and support for just about anything you can dream up. We’d love to talk to you about how we can serve you in your retirement, so give us a call or attend one of our many community events to learn more.
