Cherokee County Senior Centers

Cherokee County Senior Services offers an impressive range of services and events designed to improve seniors’ quality of life and support their efforts to remain independent. Eat a meal at the congregate meal program, or contact the advice line for details about various senior services. The three senior centers — in Canton, Ball Ground, and Waleska — offer a wide range of activities, including:

  • Regular nutrition talks, bingo, art classes, and chair yoga at the Canton location
  • Coffee talks, painting classes, field trips, and special events at the Ball Ground location
  • Games, movie and popcorn nights, and exercise classes at the Waleska Satellite Center

Cherokee County’s senior centers are the perfect antidote to loneliness and boredom. You can even get free or low-cost transportation to special events, so contact each individual center to learn more.

Outdoor Living

Canton is in a lush forest that’s warm for most of the year, so spend some time outside. Check out the BridgeMill Athletic Club for golfing, special events, and delicious food. If you love hiking and camping, enjoy the Blankets Creek Trail System.

Festivals 

Canton capitalizes on its beautiful outdoor scenery with several festivals throughout the year. As home to Cherokee Native Americans for hundreds of years, Canton boasts a number of Native American monuments and events. The biggest event is the Cherokee County Indian Festival & Mother’s Day Powwow. Enjoy shopping, dancing, folk tales, and stories all weekend long every Mother’s Day weekend. The Canton Festival of the Arts, also in May, features plenty of folk art, as well as music and delicious food trucks.

The 15th Annual Wing & Rock Fest welcomes rock music lovers of every age. Enjoy wings of every flavor and size, as well as a variety of food trucks.

During the spring and summer, head to the Chattahoochee Nature Center for Sundays on the River, featuring a range of musical acts and exceptional food. Music lovers will also enjoy Rockin’ at the River in May, which serves up a wide range of musical styles all in one picturesque location.

Atlanta Field Trips 

Atlanta is about an hour south of Canton, and the drive is a picturesque one, featuring plenty of nature, restaurants, and other attractions along the way. If you want a taste of city life, Atlanta offers endless cultural events. Check out the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Atlanta Opera, the High Museum of Art, or the SkyView Atlanta Ferris wheel.
