Senior living should also be active living! The stigma surrounding aging, where people relax in rocking chairs and spend the day knitting, is now challenged by the “active aging” concept. Active aging is all about ensuring that seniors remain engaged in different physical activities as they age. From cardio to strength training and balance classes, residents at Arbor Terrace Hamilton Mill are enjoying the many benefits of our senior-designed fitness programs. Through our partnership with fitness training company, AAAI/ISMA Fitness, our team took training courses to become equipped to lead classes that focus on seniors’ overall health and wellness. This focus on active aging has brought about impressive results. With both physical and mental improvements, residents are seeing how health and fitness at Arbor Terrace Hamilton Mill is taking aging to a new level.

All About Active Aging

Promoting a comprehensive approach to aging requires challenging the stereotypes and embracing a whole new mindset—one that champions both thought and action. At our senior living community, we've crafted a specially designed program that goes beyond conventional fitness routines. Our schedule covers multiple areas of well-being, ranging from cardiovascular fitness to the vital importance of proper hydration. Through this initiative, we're dedicated to fostering the seven dimensions of wellness: physical, social, spiritual, intellectual, emotional, vocational, and environmental well-being.

Fitness Classes for Assisted Living and Independent Living Residents

Within our active-aging fitness program, we've introduced a variety of group and personalized fitness activities with a goal of brightening the days of our residents. The main goal? We want to get seniors up and moving while ensuring they have a great time. The programs offer something for everyone, such as tai chi, yoga, deep breathing exercises, balance training, dancing, wellness discussions, and sessions on the importance of proper hydration and a nourishing diet. The outcome has been truly amazing! Our residents express appreciation for the opportunities to stay fit. Passing smiles during classes, striking up conversation with fellow residents, and bringing a newfound purpose to their days, we’re seeing uplifted spirits all around.

In addition to in-person activities, we offer Zoom sessions as well. For example, our virtual meditation class places a focus on mental well-being and inner serenity. It also allows residents to join forces with an instructor from another Abor community, creating a shared experience that transcends location.

Active Aging Benefits

Our tailored classes and activities, which encompass flexibility, strength training, balance, and more, produce a range of benefits. We're not only receiving glowing reviews from residents actively participating in these sessions, but we're also witnessing improvements in their physical and mental well-being. These classes have instilled a newfound sense of confidence and happiness in our assisted living and independent living residents, and as residents see their progress, it only adds more joy.

Not only are residents happier, but active aging has played a pivotal role in reducing blood pressure, facilitating weight loss, and enhancing mobility, including the ability to climb stairs with ease. This comprehensive approach has significantly mitigated the risk of falls and brought greater stability and security to our cherished residents.

Active aging is taking over Arbor Terrace Hamilton Mill, and we are thrilled with the results. This senior-friendly fitness programming brings many benefits to our residents. To learn more about our senior living community, schedule a tour today!
