What You'll Learn
For Colleen Gill, the Walk to End Alzheimer's has never just been a fundraiser. "This walk belongs to the community," she says — and after one conversation with her, it's easy to see why.
In the latest episode of The Golden Gang, host Ryan sits down with Colleen, Walk Manager for the Cooper River, Cumberland County, and South Jersey Shore Walk to End Alzheimer's. With a decade of nonprofit experience behind her, Colleen oversees a volunteer-led effort that raised over $100 million nationwide last year — funding not just research, but a 24-hour helpline, community education programs, and advocacy work aimed at changing how future generations experience this disease.
The most memorable story Colleen shares is Billy's. When Billy began noticing early memory changes, he was proactive — seeking a diagnosis at the Penn Memory Center and enrolling in a clinical trial for donanemab (now FDA-approved as Kisunla). Three years later, his brain scans are so clear that doctors say they wouldn't be able to diagnose him from images alone. At the 2025 walk, Colleen introduced him to David, another participant on the same medication. By the end of the day, the two called each other brothers from another mother.
If you'd like to get involved, Colleen's advice is simple: register a team at the Walk to End Alzheimer's website.
