The Arbor team’s commitment to senior care is unrivaled. Their passion is clear in everything they do. Many of our team members have been with us for years, or even decades. We recruit excellent, compassionate people, and then we do all we can to keep them. Rachael Phiri is a med tech, resident assistant, and preceptor at Arbor Terrace at Crabapple. Her quiet commitment to unparalleled care exemplifies everything that makes Arbor great.

A Lasting Commitment to Senior Care

Born in Zambia, Rachael began her career in senior living in 2006 at the Veranda in Roswell. In the 12 years since, she’s filled a variety of roles. Much of her work centers around her training as a Certified Medical Assistant.

She joined the Arbor family when Arbor Terrace Crabapple opened in 2009. At Arbor Terrace, she assists in many areas of wellness, including administering medication, getting to know residents, and helping with activities of daily living. She draws on her wisdom and expertise in her work training new resident assistants.

Fostering Meaningful Community

For Rachael, the community Arbor offers sets it apart. She says her colleagues respect and care about one another and consistently prioritize the well-being of residents. Excellent communication is key.

“Arbor Terrace Crabapple is a great company to work with because of the company culture of actively listening and respecting one another,” Rachael said. “Arbor has a special way of getting message across with respect and professionalism. In my daily interaction with residents and colleagues, there is a sense of acknowledgment and trust.”

Making Memories That Matter

Arbor just celebrated its 30th year of caring for seniors. That’s 30 years of memories that matter—thirty years of making the last chapter of seniors’ lives their best chapter yet.

Rachael’s quiet commitment to her own faith has occasionally allowed her to support residents. One resident asked to talk to Rachael when she was struggling. Rachael listened as she opened up, and the two prayed together.

Another resident was surprised to get a visit from Rachael while in the hospital. She and her husband were so excited to see a friendly face that she cried. “It felt so good to make her happy. It’s the simple gestures that make moments truly meaningful and unforgettable,” Rachel explained.

A resident once told Rachael he thought she should return to school to pursue a career in nursing. His recognition of her strengths motivated her to pursue additional training. This enabled her to advance her career, help more people, and reach her full potential. At Arbor, relationships go two ways; our staff aims to help our residents, but residents often give back just as much as they get. That resident inspired a lifetime of learning and growing that has served many residents since.
