The decision to move into a senior living community is not always an easy one to make. Sometimes the decision has to be made on behalf of your loved one for their own safety. However, what may begin with hesitation can end up being one of the best decisions you’ve ever made.

It is understandable why your loved one may resist leaving the home they knew to live in an environment that is unfamiliar. However, we know that there are many pros to living in a senior living community, from safety to a sense of community to new friendships.

Through reviews from our residents and their loved ones, learn more about life at Arbor Terrace Decatur.

SAFETY

Sometimes it is no longer safe for your loved one to live alone at home. Maybe the upkeep is too much or the home isn’t “aging-ready.” Maybe you’ve noticed signs of decline like missed medications and scorched pans. When this happens, a move into a senior living community is important for their safety and well-being.

Knowing your loved one is safe and cared for is a tremendous relief for many family members. Sarah Carruthers shared this heartwarming message, “When I was first considering Arbor Terrace, I watched a video explaining that they would take care of everything so that I could simply enjoy being with my mom. I thought that was just nice marketing, but it turned out to be completely true. I never worry about the care my mom is receiving - physically or emotionally. Even during COVID when I couldn't visit Mom, I was at least spared the stress of wondering if she was being cared for. I knew she was safe with the wonderful caregivers and staff. This team is amazing. I can't thank them enough for all they've done for my mom and for me as well.”

FEELS LIKE HOME

Senior living communities help build a sense of community. Our trained staff keeps residents engaged and maintains deep connections through shared interests and stories. Our community is modern and updated with cozy corners for reading, gardens, and dining rooms where residents eat together.

When considering a move to senior living, reviews like Frankie Millens’ are reassuring to families. She shared this heartwarming message, “We've only been at Arbor Terrace of Decatur for two months, so there are minor things that we, as a team are still working through to find out the best way to give a 104-year old amputee who uses hearing aids the the most gracious living experience that she could have...And I know we’ll do it! How do I know? Because when I told Mama that I was no longer going to be able to come to see her everyday now that I am getting back to work after being off for a year, she said ‘That's alright, darling. You go ahead, I'm just fine. I don't have any worries,’ and I know she means it! Codie, our intake guide, painted a true and honest picture of this wonderful home for seniors. Thank you, Codie and all of the Arbor Terrace of Decatur staff.

AMENITIES

When thinking of a senior living community, some may remember visiting their grandparents in a nursing home. From pools and game rooms to libraries and cocktail lounges, this is not your great-grandma’s senior living.

The way we look at senior living has evolved and seniors are staying active now more than ever. In addition to modern and updated decor, senior living communities offer many amenities like housekeeping, laundry services, and transportation. Positive reviews like this one warms our hearts. Ashlei Kennybrew shared online, “Arbor Terrace of Decatur is a great place to live and work. They are always updating their interiors, the staff is always friendly, and I simply enjoy all of the events they hold for the seniors.”

ACTIVITIES

Seniors can be affected the most when it comes to isolation, especially while dealing with an ongoing pandemic. Due to increased isolation, seniors are reevaluating their living arrangements.

Carolyn Schwartz shared this sweet review regarding memory care for her mother, “My mother has been at Arbor Terrace of Decatur for over a year and a half. I fell in love with the place the first time I walked into the building. Mom has Alzheimer's Disease. The memory care floor is a place where mom can feel independent, socialize with friends and be safe. Mom (and dad when he is visiting her) love the activities which include simple things like working on puzzles as a group, music therapy, exercise class, bingo, and outings in the community. But what has made our experience at Arbor Terrace of Decatur a true blessing is the staff. My mom is blessed with a group of people who work as a team to make sure her needs are met...that she is happy and thriving, safe and clean. Thank you Arbor Terrace of Decatur!”

There are many benefits to living in a senior living community. That’s why so many seniors are making the move!
