Once a year, residents at Arbor Terrace Sudley Manor celebrate the bonds they share during Good Neighbor Day.

In previous years, they’ve made crafts or cards for their neighbors. This year, they celebrated with a floral touch.

The Engagement team created templates of flowers, and residents chose which neighbor they wanted to salute, then added a colorful flair to the flowers, which included the name of the resident receiving it and the name of “your friend” sending it. Then, the flowers were hung on residents’ doors.

“The concept of Good Neighbor Day came about because they wanted to do something special for their neighbors. We’ve done crafts in the past; we’ve done little pins in the past,” said Susan Kane, Engagement director for Arbor Terrace Sudley Manor.

GOOD 4The residents enjoyed making their friends feel special, and these kinds of recognitions are beneficial for the folks decorating the flowers as well.

“I think one of the benefits of Good Neighbor Day is caring and thinking about others,” Kane said. “... [Residents are] keeping those deep connections and … we feel like we’re a family, and they want to reach out to others and let somebody know they care about them.”
