Falls are one of the most common causes of injury for older adults. They account for about 3 million emergency department visits across the country each year. At The Lakeside at Amelia Island, keeping residents safe is at the heart of everything we do.

That is why our Safe Landings fall prevention program now includes AUGi, a smart safety device from Inspiren. AUGi gives our care team an extra layer of awareness across all of our living options. It helps us respond quickly and, in many cases, step in before a fall happens.

What is AUGi?

AUGi stands for augmented intelligence. It is a wall-mounted smart device created by Inspiren, a nurse-led health care company. One AUGi device is placed in each resident's apartment.

The device uses multiple sensors and software to quietly follow activity in the apartment. It does not require residents to press a button or wear anything. It works in the background, day and night.

How AUGi helps keep residents safe

AUGi watches for movement patterns that may signal a problem. If it notices someone lying on the floor, it alerts our care team to a possible fall. If it senses unusual activity, such as a resident getting out of bed alone at night, it lets the team know right away.
This around-the-clock awareness gives our caregivers a clear view of high-risk moments. It means help can arrive faster when it matters most. In many cases, the team can step in and prevent a fall before it occurs.

Over time, AUGi also helps our team notice small changes in a resident's daily patterns. Those insights help us adjust each person's care plan and support their health and well-being.

Privacy and dignity always come first

Safety technology only works when residents and families trust it. AUGi is designed with privacy at its core. It shows caregivers deidentified images, and it does not record sound in the apartment.

The device collects only the small amount of information needed to keep residents safe. AUGi also lowers the need for in-person overnight checks, so residents can rest without unnecessary interruptions. It is meant to support our caregivers, not replace them.

AUGi is not a medical device. It is one more tool that helps our team deliver attentive, personal care every day.

Part of the Safe Landings approach

AUGi is one piece of our larger Safe Landings program. Safe Landings brings together a personalized plan of care, regular medication reviews, and close communication with each resident's medical providers. Our team also partners with physical, occupational, and speech therapy providers to help residents stay strong and steady.

At The Lakeside at Amelia Island, this safety-first approach reaches every level of living, from independent living and assisted living to memory care. AUGi is offered to residents at no additional cost. Together, these tools help families feel confident that their loved one is well cared for.
