Join a senior Meetup group. These small, informal gatherings meet in person and network through Meetup.com. Many groups boast an active online presence, making it easy to connect to like-minded seniors even when you want to stay in. There are Meetup groups for singles, for people who want to volunteer, for every imaginable political and religious affiliation, and for artists of every stripe.
Visit the Dallas Holocaust Museum Center for Education and Tolerance. This memorial to the Holocaust does more than glance back into the past. It looks to the future, providing support for those who want to sculpt a better world. Check out the Anne Frank exhibit, which is available now through July 2019. Or take your grandkids to one of the museum’s many presentations and exhibits about becoming an upstander instead of a bystander. You’ll leave the museum saddened by the worst of what humanity can do, but hopeful about the power of tolerance and love to transform the world.
Check out the George W. Bush Presidential Center. History buffs of every political persuasion will find a lot to enjoy here, including lectures, forums, and an inside glimpse at what it means to lead a nation.
Visit the animals at the Dallas World Aquarium. With themed exhibits featuring marine mammals, sharks, small and large fish, ducks, and more, this interactive museum is a must for families with small children. Be sure to grab a bite to eat at one of the aquarium’s excellent restaurants.
Spend a day at the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA). The DMA features an exceptional collection of contemporary, American, and African art, as well as numerous limited-time exhibits. Stop in for a family program or lecture, or dig more deeply into the world of art by volunteering at the museum.
Stroll through Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. With year-round exhibits, there’s something here for every gardener and aspiring botanist to enjoy. The annual three-day Food and Wine Festival features incredible dining amid a lush backdrop of tulips and other early spring blossoms.
Plan a visit to see the world-famous Dallas Cowboys in action. AT&T Stadium is one of the best in the world, featuring interactive exhibits, quality food, comfortable seating, and a tribute to Texas Stadium, the much-beloved home of the Cowboys from 1971 to 2008.
Check out Thanks-Giving Square. Located near restaurants and shops in the heart of downtown Dallas, this gorgeous square pays homage to worldwide traditions of giving thanks. Featuring a multidenominational chapel, numerous festivals and events, and breathtaking mosaics, this square is more than just an art exhibit. It’s a multicultural tribute to our best human impulses.
Spend a day in CitySquare. This community development organization fights poverty and offers numerous volunteer opportunities. Its cafe offers delicious food with an ever-evolving daily menu. CitySquare routinely hosts discussions and lectures, community events, and galas designed to fight poverty and raise community awareness.
