We remain committed to providing proactive communication with residents, families, and staff. Ahead of and during severe weather events, we will update this page as we have new information to share. We will also send periodic updates via automated telephone calls to residents' emergency contacts.

October 11, 2024 2:30 p.m.

All buses have arrived back at Barrington Terrace of Fort Myers! Our team is working to get everyone settled back into their apartments.

Our phone and internet service is operational, and the hurricane hotline is no longer in effect. To reach us, just call the community at 239-334-2500 like always.

I want to thank our amazing Barrington Terrace team, especially those who traveled with us to Pompano Beach. Moving an entire assisted living community across the state is no easy task, but I’m proud to say that our team stepped up and took care of every resident with love and compassion.

This will be our last message related to Hurricane Milton. Thank you for your support and understanding over the past several days.

Thank you!

October 11, 2024 11:00 a.m.

Thank you.

October 11, 2024 10:20 a.m.

All buses have departed Pompano Beach, headed back home to Fort Myers! We will send you another update once we have arrived.

As of this morning, the internet and phones are still down in the Barrington Terrace building. If you need to get in touch with us, please continue to call our Barrington Terrace phone number at 239-334-2500 and leave a message. We will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you.

October 10, 2024 5:56 p.m.

We are getting ready to go home! The Fort Myers building is in good condition and ready for our return tomorrow.

The journey back to Fort Myers will work much like our trip to Pompano Beach on Tuesday, using large motor coach buses along with our community bus and the moving van with everyone’s belongings, medication, etc. We plan to start boarding the first bus after breakfast, and each bus will depart as we are able to get everyone loaded safely.

We expect there to be traffic along the route, so we don’t know how long the drive will take. However, we will have boxed lunches, drinks, and plenty of snacks for everyone.

If you haven’t seen it yet, you can read a news story WGCU radio published yesterday about our evacuation. They made a fantastic video that goes into detail of the evacuation process. Click here to read the article and see the video.

If you need to get in touch with us, please continue to call our Barrington Terrace phone number at 239-334-2500 and leave a message. We will get back to you as soon as possible.

We will send another update tomorrow once everyone has departed Pompano Beach.

Thank you.

October 10, 2024 8:40 a.m.

Our residents are still in good spirits, and everyone is happy that we made it safely through the hurricane in our temporary community. We will spend today much like yesterday, with engaging activities, good food, and making new friends in Pompano Beach.

Over in Fort Myers, we are grateful to report that our building is in good condition. The building didn’t get any flooding inside, and we currently have power there.

We are developing our plan to move everyone back to Fort Myers, factoring in road conditions, traffic, and other logistics. I will send another update to you this evening with more information and our expected timeline for our return.

If you need to get in touch with us today, please continue to call our Barrington Terrace phone number at 239-334-2500 and leave a message. We will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you!

October 9, 2024 6:20 p.m.

We’ve had a nice day today, filled with plenty of activities, from flower arranging, to Bingo, and more! We have started to see the wind and rain from Hurricane Milton. So far, our power has stayed on, but if we do experience a power outage, the community’s generator will activate to provide backup electricity.

We know that many of you are wondering about how your loved ones are doing. We have noticed many of the residents’ cell phones have started getting low batteries, making it hard for you to get in touch with them. We are working to help them get their phones charged up so they can be available for your calls.

The best way to get in touch with our community team is to call our Fort Myers telephone number: 239-334-2500.This number is forwarded to our hurricane hotline, which will let you leave a message that will go directly to a team member who is solely focused on our residents and can get you the information you need. Please do not call The Preserve at Palm-Aire. This community has an amazing concierge team who answer the phones, but they do not know our residents or have an efficient way of finding out information for you. Therefore, it is best for you to call our Fort Myers number so we can call you back as soon as possible.

Additionally, please know that we will contact you directly if there is anything urgent related to your family member that we need to share with you. In these cases, we won’t wait for you to call us.

We will provide you with another update tomorrow to share any developments from overnight as well as any details about our return to Fort Myers as that information is available.

Thank you, and we hope you stay safe during the storm.

October 9, 2024 9:00 a.m.

We’re happy to report that our relocation to The Preserve at Palm-Aire in Pompano Beach was successful and everyone is settling nicely into their temporary home for the next few days. Residents woke up this morning and enjoyed a hot breakfast. Today’s plan is to try to keep life as normal as possible with engagement activities and routines similar to what we do back in Fort Myers.

Unless something changes, we will send our next update to you tomorrow. If you need to reach us, please call the community at 239-334-2500 and leave a message on our hurricane hotline. We are monitoring that inbox and will respond to you quickly.

For those of you who are located in Florida, we hope you stay safe throughout the storm.

Thank you.

October 8, 2024 7:10 p.m.

All of the buses have arrived at The Preserve at Palm-Aire community. Residents are getting settled into their temporary accommodations in assisted living, Bridges, and memory care. The Preserve dining team has prepared dinner for us, including chicken, rice, and vegetables.

We will provide another update for you tomorrow.

Our phones have been forwarded to our hurricane hotline. If you have any urgent questions or concerns, you can leave a message by calling the community at 239-334-2500, and someone will find the answers for you and return your call. Depending on the storm situation, we might not be able to call back instantly, but we will do our best to get back with you as soon as possible.

Thank you.

October 7, 2024 7:15 p.m.

We spent today packing and getting everyone ready for tomorrow’s journey to Pompano Beach. Here are some additional details for you as we prepare for the evacuation ahead of Hurricane Milton:

Traveling Tomorrow

  • We plan to depart by noon tomorrow, headed to The Preserve at Palm-Aire, in Pompano Beach, Florida.
  • We will use three large motor coach buses, plus our community bus and one of our sister communities’ buses.
  • We will also bring a large moving van, which will contain everyone’s clothing, supplies, necessary medical equipment, medication, toiletries, etc.
  • More than 30 Barrington Terrace staff members will accompany the residents on the buses to keep everyone comfortable and entertained.

Temporary Accommodations

  • Once we arrive, residents and staff will move into temporary accommodations at The Preserve, in assisted living, Bridges, and Evergreen memory care.
  • The community is preparing for our arrival with comfortable beds (up to two per room) and plenty of food for everyone.
  • In addition to our team, staff members from The Preserve will also support our residents with general caregiving, medication management, dining, etc.

Communication

  • We will notify you once we have departed and again once everyone is settled at our destination.
  • While we are away from Barrington Terrace, our phone system will switch over to our emergency hotline.
  • If you have any urgent questions or concerns, you can leave a message by calling the community, and someone will find the answers for you and return your call. Depending on the storm situation, we might not be able to call back instantly, but we will do our best to get back with you as soon as possible.
  • We will plan to continue to send you daily updates via email until we have returned to Barrington Terrace.

Preparing Barrington Terrace

  • One of our maintenance team members will stay behind to look after our Barrington Terrace building during the hurricane.
  • We will place sandbags at all of the entrances to block water from entering the building. If the storm surge is not too bad, we will hopefully not get any water intrusion. However, if the water levels reach the height of the apartment air conditioning units, we will start to see some water in the building. We are hoping for the best and doing what we can to block water from coming in ahead of time.

We appreciate your support and understanding as we navigate this mandatory evacuation of our community. We will be in touch tomorrow once we have departed.

Thank you.

October 7, 2024 2:30 p.m.

We have received mandatory evacuation orders for our area ahead of Hurricane Milton.

We are currently working to get every resident ready, including medications, clothing, and toiletries. We plan to depart by 1:00 p.m. tomorrow via motor coach buses, headed to The Preserve at Palm-Aire, in Pompano Beach.

If you wish to pick up your loved one instead, please call us as soon as possible at 239-334-2500 so that we can be sure to account for everyone.

October 7, 2024 10:20 a.m.

We are actively preparing for Hurricane Milton. Our generator is fueled up, and we have a supply of emergency food and water on hand.

Based on the storm’s current path, there is a chance we may receive evacuation orders due to the predicted storm surge. We are already prepared for a potential evacuation with buses ready and on standby to transport residents and staff to our sister community, The Preserve at Palm-Aire, in Pompano Beach. This is an inland community that is not subject to mandatory evacuations for storm surge.

If you do not wish for your loved one to evacuate with us, we need to know your plans by noon today. Please call us at 239-334-2500 and we can help prepare for you to pick up your loved one.
