Around 80 youngsters from Everglades City, Copeland, Chokoloskee, and Plantation Island enjoyed breakfast with Santa and early presents at a celebration on December 22nd in the Everglades City Community Center.
A dozen officers with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office were on hand to interact with the kids, a change from previous years when the youngsters would “shop with a cop” at a local store to buy gifts for their families. Afterward, they would gather at Barrington Terrace of Naples, an assisted-living facility in East Naples, to sing to the residents.
Funding was tight this year, so a few Barrington residents instead came to the community center in Everglades City for breakfast with Santa.
