Does Medicare cover the cost of assisted living in Pennsylvania?

Medicare in Pennsylvania will not typically cover the non-medical care expenses associated with personal care (also known as assisted living). Medicare typically only covers a short-term stay in a skilled nursing or rehabilitation community while an older adult is recovering from an illness or injury. It can also cover in-home rehab care performed by a home health nurse or therapist.

What is the Bridges Neighborhood at Arbor Terrace Exton?

Our Bridges Neighborhood was designed specifically for seniors living with early-stage cognitive decline—those who don’t yet need to be in a memory care or dementia care setting. This special neighborhood within our community gives residents the chance to live in a beautiful and safe environment created just for them. Residents can be themselves among their friends, while participating in a variety of social events and programs designed with healthy socialization and cognitive exercise in mind.

What is dementia care?

Dementia care lifestyles, programs, and activities are specially designed for those with memory impairment, Alzheimer’s disease, or other forms of dementia. Dementia care can either be offered on its own or, more often, provided as a service in a separate area of an assisted living facility. Arbor Terrace Exton’s dementia care program is meant to provide support, encouragement, and relationships for each of our residents. And it’s all backed by Arbor’s 30+ years of experience in dementia and memory care.

How are dementia care services different from personal care services in Exton, PA?

Both dementia care and personal care offer support to people with a range of health issues, including cognitive impairments. Dementia care, however, caters specifically to those with Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia through dementia-friendly activities and staff trained in the psychological and physical effects of cognitive impairments. To understand the key differences, you may find this post from The Arbor Company blog helpful.

If you have questions about these different types of senior living at Arbor Terrace Exton, or would like help determining which might be the best fit for you or your loved one, please contact us. We’re happy to help!

How much does dementia care cost in Pennsylvania?

Dementia care costs are generally 20-30% higher than personal care costs. Dementia care can be an expensive commitment, but it's worth the cost. The approximate monthly rate for a dementia care facility in Pennsylvania is $4,891, but pricing can vary widely depending on the location and level of dementia care that is needed.

What’s the difference between Arbor Terrace Exton and a nursing home near Philadelphia, PA?

Arbor Terrace Exton was designed to be reminiscent of home, offering private apartments and independence for our residents. In fact, some personal care residents drive their own cars, cook some of their own meals, and come and go as they please. Personal care at Arbor Terrace Exton includes dining, housekeeping, laundry, maintenance, and all of the other world-class amenities that Arbor is known for. Our staff is available 24 hours a day to provide help, if and when it’s needed. Personal care is a great option for seniors who need extra support or who need assistance with day-to-day tasks.

By contrast, a nursing home (also known as a skilled nursing facility) offers more comprehensive support to those who have extensive medical needs in more of a clinical environment. They provide the highest level of care possible outside of a hospital, delivering 24-hour care to seniors who have complex medical conditions and need hands-on assistance and monitoring. Skilled nursing facilities are the best choice for those who need assistance with tasks that go beyond the activities of daily living.
